Jakarta - Research Center for Regional Resources, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (P2SDR-LIPI) successfully held the Ambassador Lecture Series #1 by theme “Kerja Bersama, Maju Bersama: Indonesia-Japan Strategic Partnership”. This Lecture was held on September 7, 2017 in Auditorium Widya Graha Building LIPI. As the first Ambassador Lecture by LIPI, the Lecture has reach a wonderful achievement to have.
On this occasion, the main speaker to present his lecture is H.E Ambassador Masafumi Ishii as Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Indonesia. At this moment, Ambassador Ishii has practically conveyed about diplomatic cooperation between Japan-Indonesia either in economic or politics, along with the strategies that both countries should take regarding global politic situation in the future. On the other hand, Ambassador Ishii compound on how important regional cooperation between Japan, allies, and the neighboring countries, which is United States and China. Ambassador Ishii believes that future diplomacy heading to G3 (China, India, USA) would need a suitable precision in bureaucracy through international rule-making, as these country rise as a supremacy in the forthcoming. On the other hand, Japan wants to emphasize that mutual threats have to be solved by like-minded countries as well, especially to resolve the North Korea issues.
Ambassador Ishii realizes how crucial the United States stands as their allies, by saying so, he consistently believes that America would be always be the part of solution-making. In so doing, Japan have to encourage their own military defense in the future. This statement has engaged to discussion panel about Fukuda doctrine as Japan main foreign policy for the past few decades. As it leads into a conclusion that Japan would always stand on their traditional Fukuda Doctrin, but in the same time, would foresee the allies to react on others threat. Responding to their biggest neighbor country, Japan considers that prosperous and stable China is the easiest one to deal with. Even though that there were ups and downs on their diplomatic policy, Ambassador Ishii believes that they need to live peacefully together with economic opportunities for their mutual benefits.
As the discussion take place, Dr. Fadjar Ibnu Thufail as the moderator have a substantial role to navigate and conclude Ambassador thoughts and statement. As the result, this lecture has proceed in rich and fruitful discussion. (/Natasha Rose)
