Research Center for Regional Resources (P2SDR) of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) is grateful for having its 16th anniversary on June 7th this year. Within 16 years serving as center for area studies in LIPI, many achievements have been made. Some to mention are, Public Lecture Series on Area Studies that P2SDR has successfully held last year, and some recently signed agreements on research cooperation. From the lecture, P2SDR-LIPI learned some new approaches in area studies and start applying them on our research; they are: mobility, global-local connection, multi discipline, and multi sites.
P2SDR is also actively build international networks through academic and scientific collaboration. On May 2017, P2SDR and two overseas institutions (Ritsumeikan University, Japan and Sogang University, South Korea), have come to agreements to undertake research collaboration and academic activities. This allows P2SDR and partner universities to carry out some academic activities, such as conducting collaborative research projects, jointly organizing seminar and conference, joint publications, and so on.
For the last few years, P2SDR on the other hand, has also been continuously serving as counterpart institution for several foreign researchers. Our researchers has been acting as counterpart for Ph.D. Students and also Visiting Researchers, who have been conducting their research in Indonesia. Today, we have four Ph.D. Students who have some words to say. Here are their testimonials and wishes to P2SDR 16th Anniversary:
“Alles Gute zum 16. Geburtstag (All the best to the 16th Birthday) P2SDR. It is a great pleasure to conduct research jointly with our beloved colleagues from P2SDR who also helped me to get to know much better Wonderful Indonesia. The University of Cologne is glad to have P2SDR as a cooperation partner and we are looking forward to tighten the relationship between Indonesia and Germany. May continue you your research enthusiasm around the world for the next 16 years. Best wishes from Cologne, Germany.”

“Pusat Penelitian Sumber Daya Regional (P2SDR) kindly helped me for getting my research permission from the Indonesian government. If it were not their effort, it wouldn't be possible to finish the procedures of research visa. I really appreciate researchers of P2SDR. In addition, presentations for foreign researchers that P2SDR held including me were much instructive for each other. Discussing with P2SDR staffs as academic professionals, I got valuable insights such as culture or religion that was difficult to be found in the field work. Thank you!“
(Kota – Ph.D. Candidate, The University of Tokyo, Japan)
“I have been doing a fieldwork in Indonesia for my Ph.D. dissertation under the sponsorship of Research Center for Regional Resources, Indonesian Institute of Science (P2SDR-LIPI). I'd like to express my deep appreciation to the researchers at P2SDR-LIPI, for giving me a lot of supports for my research activities. Among all these help, I am especially grateful for helping me obtaining and extending research permission and Limited Stay Permit, which is very important for foreign researchers. Also, I would like to state my gratitude for letting me join seminars held in P2SDR and giving me a chance to join lively academic discussions, which was very inspiring for me. Best wishes for the future prosperity of Research Center for Regional Resources.”
(Daiki – Ph.D. Candidate, The University of Tokyo, Japan)
In addition, P2SDR also invites and welcomes undergraduate students to join an internship program in here. The students will be assigned in a research team and actively involved in our research activities. Up to today, two students from Department of Anthropology, Airlangga University, have completed their internship in our Center. Here are their best wishes to P2SDR:
“My first impression on P2SDR LIPI was great fun. The office atmosphere is very comfortable and has a very good working culture. I also met a very friendly P2SDR LIPI employee. I had a lot of discussion with researcher from P2SDR LIPI. I get a lot of new knowledge and new information. Researchers at P2SDR LIPI have been highly specialized, especially regarding Europe, East Asia, and South Asia Internships at P2SDR LIPI have provided many meaningful lessons for me. I have to adapt to the life of Jakarta. I need to be able to adjust to office hours. I think the internship in P2SDR LIPI provides many benefits for my thesis. I learned a lot about developing a good and correct research procedure. I hope that in the future P2SDR LIPI can advance and become the best institution in producing a research. Happy Birthday and success always to P2SDR LIPI who ever became part of my life, in achieving bachelor degree.”
